Average weighing women are required to gain 25 to 35 pounds when pregnant. Overweight women should gain from 15 to 25 pounds while their underweight counterparts should gain between 25 to 40 pounds during the pregnancy period. Generally one is required to gain one pound every week during pregnancy after gaining the initial 2-4 pounds in the initial three months of pregnancy.

For the twins carrying women, it is required for them to gain 35-45 pounds during the pregnancy period. 1.5 pounds increase a week is the weight gain expected of them. Taking 3000-3,500 calories daily for them is also ideal in order to meet the needs of the babies.

In order to gain the right amount of weight it is advisable to eat often but sparingly, in the form of small meals more than five times per day. Take healthy fats such as nonfat milk. Eat lots of fruits and ensure that at least one major meal per day is a balanced diet.
Lastly ensure that you perform the appropriate exercises during pregnancy to regulate rapid weight gain, but ensure that you don't over exert yourself. Seeking the services of a professional during exercising if not sure, might just be a step in the right direction.
