The UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) is a mixed martial arts promotion company that is based out of the United States. The company started back in 1993, and right now, there is not a sports organization on the planet that is growing at a faster rate.

Mixed Martial Arts:
Mixed martial arts (MMA) is an exciting combat sport that has a long history. The roots of the sport trace all the way back to the ancient Olympic Games held in the city of Athens. In the 1920s, a form of Brazilian MMA called Vale Tudo (anything goes) was created. The UFC introduced MMA to the USA, and it has been growing in popularity both in Brazil and in the US. MMA is a mix of many different fighting disciplines including karate, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, grappling, sumo and more.
In May of 2011,  Christian M’Pumbu defeated Rich Hale to win the Bellator Light Heavyweight tournament and the title that went along with it....More at MMA News
MMA Rules:
In the early days before MMA became an organized sport, there were not many rules at all. It was inevitable that as the sport gained in popularity, more rules had to be implemented for the safety of the fighters.

In addition to rules for fight duration and attire, there is a long list of actions that qualify as fouls during a fight. The list is much too long to mention here, but some of the illegal moves include...

- head butting
- biting
- hair pulling
- blows to the groin
- stomping on a fighter
- attacking during a break
... and much more.

The Growth of UFC:
In January 2001, the UFC turned MMA into an organized combat sport. UFC produces live Pay-Per-View events that are distributed through numerous cable and satellite providers including DIRECTV, TVN Entertainment, DISH Network, Shaw Pay-Per-View, Viewers Choice, and other outlets.
Thanks to a stable of excellent fighters and excellent marketing strategies, MMA has a fast growing loyal fan base. UFC fights are broadcasted in more than 149 countries and territories. It reaches millions of homes throughout the world in many different languages. With the strong leadership team of Dana White, Lorenzo Fertitta, and Frank Fertitta III, the UFC is experiencing tremendous growth.
